Stay Informed about Colorado Law and Education

coloradosealColorado State Representative Ray Rose encouraged us to stay informed at our Parent Support Conference & Picnic this last July. During his evening comments, he encouraged all of us (parents, Learners, educators, RCs, and staff) to stay informed about what our Colorado legislators are working on and approving as law, especially as it relates to education. He stated that at many times, bills have been proposed and passed that could (and perhaps should) have been stopped had there been enough support or input at the local level. Otherwise, paid lobbyists and other more vocal political groups may solely gain the lawmaker's ears.

If you have an opinion, your Representative needs to hear from you. However, Rep. Rose noted that a person will gain much more attention with their State Representative if they are knowledgeable and specific about their concerns and the proposed laws they are addressing. Outbursts like, "I just think whatever that crazy bill is about new textbooks is just plain stupid," probably won't go too far! Although, even that will get more attention than saying nothing at all.

One way that you can stay informed is to periodically visit the website:
www.leg.state.co.us
The site has ballot issues, reports, statutes, district maps, constitution info, and a host of other government resources.

After all, we essentially pay folks like Rep. Ray Rose to represent all of our concerns, young and old alike!
